James Hodges, born in 1981, started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in May 2005. Prior to this he studied Boxing and Thai Boxing as a teenager, then moving on to Combat Submission Wrestling in his early twenties.

James currently holds a brown belt. He competes in national competitions, but spends a lot of his time training and instructing at Exeter BJJ with fellow instructors Alaric Moore and Chris Jones. Exeter BJJ is primarily based at Fitness First in Exeter, and hosts BJJ Tuesday and Thursday nights (Gi) and Wednesday nights (No Gi). On Monday nights a separate Gi class is held at Exeter Boxing club.

Back in 2010 James travelled to Rio De Janeiro - Brazil and trained daily at Roberto Gordo Correa's (former Head Instructor at Gracie Barra) Academy.

Recently James and Exeter BJJ have moved to train under Raphael Dos Santos Team. Before Raphael the team trained under Italo Ferreira for two and a half years.
